"La Cambuse is the name of the restaurant my father opened in 1980 in a village in the south of France. People talk about him as an incredible man, a character, a sun. They tell me that the restaurant was a pretext for a humanist like him to create a place that brings everyone together; sharing culture, partying and meeting people. I only knew my father in my first two years. Over the course of my life, I have built up an image of him, both physically and mentally, thanks to the photographs I have found and the stories of those close to him. What are the links with a father we never knew? Do I look like him? What did he pass on to me?"

La Cambuse is an investigation by Martin Gallone that questions paternal transmission and heritage. The book is divided into two parts; one with the family archives in colour which present Philippe Gallone as a sunny and festive being and the second in a booklet; a collection of interviews carried out by Martin Gallone with friends and family of Philippe Gallone who enlighten us on his life, his other facet and his final gesture. Who was Philippe Gallone?

Photographer and director, born in Provence in 1990, Martin Gallone lives and works in Brussels. He is co-founder of 'La Straussphère' and 'La Nombreuse Asbl', a cultural place dedicated to photography in Brussels. www.martingallone.com
