For more than ten years, Basque photographer Jon Cazenave has been leading a project around his identity, entitled Galerna (storm in Basque). By attaching himself to his closest environment, the sea, the mountains, the edge of the woods and its prehistoric caves, Jon Cazenave recreates the experience of his native land in all its geological diversity and spirituality. The images, mostly in B&W, with strong contrast, immerse the viewer in a multisensory experience imbued with symbolism.

Galerna is an initiatory journey where the power of nature acquires a universal dimension, by questioning the concepts of transmission and cultural heritage. An essay by writer Kirmen Uribe questions the Basque linguistic foundations and their resonances in the work of Jon Cazenave. While a text by Fannie Escoulen, exhibition curator, sheds light on this photographic quest.
