Paysages usagés. Observatoire Photographique du Paysage depuis le GR2013 was created on the initiative of Bertrand Stofleth and Geoffroy Mathieu in 2012, to coincide with Marseille Provence, European Capital of Culture. A collaborative photographic project involving artists, walkers, residents and researchers, Paysages usagés documents a metropolitan area under construction, subject to the anthropogenic pressures that shape our landscapes: the input and withdrawal of matter, the transformations, mutations or latencies associated with the development, protection or abandonment of spaces and environments. One hundred photographs were taken along the 365 km of the GR2013 metropolitan footpath, integrating its route with a white line that runs through the image and fades away year after year. For 10 years, each year, the artists photographed 30 viewpoints identically and entrusted the other 70 to adopters who ensured the renewal of their viewpoints.
This book is being published to coincide with the Paysages usagés exhibition at the Centre Photographique Marseille from 9 December 2023 to 2 March 2024, with the support of the DREAL-Direction régionale de l'environnement, de l'aménagement et du logement-Préfet de la région Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, the Aix-Marseille-Provence metropolitan authority, the Agence d'urbanisme du Pays d'Aix-Durance, the FRAC Sud-Cité de l'art contemporain and the Centre Photographique Marseille.
