It all begins with one word: disappointment. This project came to life upon discovering a definition. It was in an English dictionary. At that moment in my life, I was experiencing great disappointment. A romantic disappointment. What a common yet powerful expression! It evokes—without ambiguity—the discord and the abrupt end of feelings once shared.
It was the dominant emotion that overwhelmed me throughout the day, accompanying me from morning until night.
While flipping through an English dictionary for another project, I suddenly felt the urge to look up its meaning.
dis.ap.point.ment / n 1 (v) a feeling of unhappiness because something is not as good as you expected, or has not happened in the way you hoped: He could see the disappointment in her eyes. 12 (c) someone or something that is not good as you hoped or expected : The movie was kind of a disappointment.
When I read it, I laughed. It was so clear, so vivid.
I immediately wanted to translate this definition into images. But I didn’t want to take on the point of view of «she» or «him»; I wanted to speak from the perspective of a moving, evolving feeling.
The Romantic Feeling. That emotion that flows through us, intoxicates us, withers, sometimes leaves us, and returns several times throughout a lifetime.
